Real wood, warm underfoot, and the natural look a lot of people still want in the garden. The catch with timber is that it only lasts if it’s built and finished properly. Done right, that’s exactly what we do.

Why Some Timber Decks Rot and Others Don’t
Here’s the thing people get wrong about timber. It isn’t the wood that fails, it’s the build. A deck thrown together with untreated boards, no air gap and sealed-in damp will go grey and start rotting in a couple of winters. That’s the deck people regret.
A timber deck built the right way is a different animal. Pressure-treated or hardwood timber, a ventilated subframe that lets it breathe, drainage so water runs off instead of sitting, and cut ends sealed so the damp can’t get in where you can’t see it. That deck lasts.
If you want the natural warmth and feel of real wood, and you’re happy to give it a clean and a fresh coat every so often, timber is a sound choice. We just build it so the damp doesn’t win.
How We Build It
- You call. Seamus comes out, looks at the garden and talks through hardwood versus treated softwood for your spot.
- You get an itemised quote. A written price listing the timber, the frame, the steps and the cleanup, with old-deck removal included.
- We build it to last. Ventilated, drained subframe, quality treated or hardwood boards, sealed ends, fixed and finished cleanly.
- We leave it tidy. Old deck taken away, site left neat.
What You Get
A solid, good-looking timber deck that holds up in the Louth weather instead of falling apart in it.
- Hardwood or properly pressure-treated softwood, your choice
- A subframe built to drain and breathe, the part that decides how long it lasts
- Sealed cut ends and edges, so rot can’t start where you can’t see it
- Built-in seating, steps, planters or balustrades if you want them
- A finish that looks great on day one and is easy to keep that way

What It Costs
Timber is the lower upfront option, which is why a lot of people start here. The trade-off is upkeep: a clean and a re-coat every year or two to keep it from greying. Factor that in and it’s still good value, especially for a bigger area.
We don’t quote a flat figure online because no two gardens are the same. You get a fixed, written, itemised price after we’ve seen the job, no surprises. Our decking cost guide sets out the ranges we work to.
Timber Decking FAQ
How long does timber decking last in Ireland?
A well-built treated softwood deck typically lasts 15 to 20 years, and quality hardwood longer again, as long as it’s kept clean and re-coated. The number that really matters isn’t the timber, it’s whether the frame drains and the ends are sealed. That’s where we don’t cut corners.
How do I stop timber decking rotting?
Rot starts where water sits and where bare cut ends soak it up. We build with a ventilated, drained subframe and seal every cut end, and we’ll show you how to keep on top of it with a wash and a re-coat. If your current deck is already going, see decking repairs.
Will timber decking get slippery?
Any deck gets slippery if algae is left to build up, timber included. A grooved board, decent run-off and a yearly clean keep it safe. If low maintenance and grip matter most to you, composite decking is worth a look.
Do you take the old deck away?
Yes, removing and disposing of the old deck is part of the quote. You won’t be left clearing it yourself.
